Field 3, our premiere estate-grown dry red, has earned high marks and a well-deserved Gold Medal at the 2016 New York International Wine Competition. A Leon Millot varietal, the 2014 vintage is big-bodied and fruit- forward exhibiting bright essences of cherry, plum and blackberry with a soft, raisin-y finish. It is produced from the Leon Millot grapes grown in Field number 3 of our vineyard (hence the name) and made exclusively in years that provide exceptional growing seasons and grapes of the highest quality.
Available for purchase exclusively in the vineyard tasting room or online, it can also be found at select Madison-area restaurants.
Finally, the New York International Wine Competition also named Botham Vineyards the Winery of the Year. We are humbly grateful and honored.

One year later, on the heels of the selection by Epicurious.com as Wisconsin’s BEST Wine, Uplands Reserve has again been awarded the state’s BEST wine honor, this time by Purewow.com.
Estate grown, produced and bottled, Uplands Reserve is a Marechal Foch varietal that exhibits rich, earthy overtones of raisin and blackberry with a smoky finish.
We are continually thrilled an humbled by these unsolicited accolades and encouraged to continue our belief in the authentic vine-to-bottle approach to winemaking.

Epicurious recognizes one best wine from all 50 states in its feature, The United States of Wine
It’s been a pretty good week here.
In addition to earning three gold medals at the recent Eastern International Wine Competition for wines in its portfolio, Botham Vineyards’ Uplands Reserve, an estate-grown, dry red, has been named Wisconsin’s BEST wine by the prestigious food and wine website, Epicurious.com. That’s Wisconsin’s BEST, from among more than 100 Wisconsin wineries.
“As winemakers press forward as pioneers, planting Old World grapes in new places and coaxing a surprising range of characteristics from native fruit, we’ve chosen the best, one from every state, to give you a real taste of America,” the Epicurious article said.
From our perspective, the really special thing about this is that it recognizes an estate-grown wine as Wisconsin’s best. We grow, produce and bottle this wine right here at the vineyard and this recognition is just further evidence that real Wisconsin wine produced vine-to-bottle can be of extraordinary quality and stand with the best from around the country.
Explaining its choice for Wisconsin’s best, Epicurious.com said, “The rolling hills of southwestern Wisconsin foster Marechal Foch vines, and at Botham Vineyards, the grape goes into the estate-grown Uplands Reserve, a dry red wine that also includes Léon Millot grapes. Expect soft and accessible with cherry, cranberry, and smoke on the finish. Try with one of Wisconsin’s 600 types of artisan cheese.”
Separate but equally exciting news this week came via results from the Eastern International Wine Competition (East Meets West) held in Sonoma, California on February 10. Our Cupola, Vin 10 and Finis wines each earned gold medals and our 2012 Field 3 and Riesling wines earned bronze medals. This is a highly regarded competition and we are pleased and proud to have earned the awards for these wines.
So yes. It’s been a pretty good week.
The International Eastern Wine Competition (IEWC), established in 1975, is one of the oldest and largest professional wine competitions in the United States. Entries are available to wineries produced in the East, making it a truly regional affair.

Long favored for our signature brand of Wisconsin hospitality and our regionally distinctive wines, Botham Vineyards is one of the oldest and most widely acclaimed Wisconsin wineries. While we plan lots of events, there is plenty to enjoy on non-event days as well.
It’s impossible not to be drawn to the peaceful serenity of the vineyard. Rolling hills, abundant wildlife and bird songs from every port of call linger here, as do thousands of visitors who pass through our doorway each season. None would say there are too many people. None would say that the people get in the way of the peace. There’s just too much room for that. Even on our business event days when thousands can visit in just one day, there is always a sense of quiet calm. That’s what drew Travel Writer Brian E. Clark and his son, Anders, to Botham Vineyards on a recent Sunday morning. They too understood the magic of this remarkable place and have shared their story here.
We hope you too will be drawn to explore this beautiful place, sample our wines and linger for an hour or an afternoon. Pack a picnic, a frisbee, a blanket and good company. We’ll supply the wine, the music (human or bird) and the oak trees under which you just might choose to take a long afternoon nap. Your only assignment is to relax and enjoy.
We look forward to welcoming you.
